Shaping Somalia's Digital Future

What the forum is

The Somalia Internet Governance Forum is a national space for dialogue about how the Internet is governed, accessed and used in Somalia. It follows the multistakeholder model used by Internet Governance Forums worldwide: government, the private sector, civil society, academia, the technical community, media and youth take part together, each contributing the perspective only they can.

Conversations range across the issues that decide whether the Internet works for people — affordable and reliable access, trust and security online, rights and protections, skills, and the technologies now reshaping public services and the economy.

Why it matters

Decisions about the Internet are rarely made in one place. They emerge from operators, regulators, developers, educators and users acting in parallel. A forum gives those actors a shared room, a shared agenda and a shared record — which is how national priorities become legible to everyone working on them.

What the forum aims to do

• Convene government, private sector, civil society, academia, youth and the technical community in one national dialogue.
• Surface practical, Somalia-specific priorities for Internet policy and digital development.
• Strengthen local capacity to participate in regional and global Internet governance processes.
• Produce a shared record of discussions that can inform future policy work.
